How to read when you hate reading.

Introduction

I get so excited about reading a famous book when I hear about it but I never really start reading it, or I just abandon reading it after a few days, so I researched how to overcome this.

Here are some tips ๐Ÿ‘‡

1. Don't Overachieve

Don't set targets like reading a book in a week. Set your goals so low that you can do it easily, like one page a day. It only takes about a minute to read one page and it's extremely easy, but remember, it's just as easy not to do. So make sure you do it. If you want to continue reading after smashing your daily goal then go for it. The important thing is to get that one page in.

As said by James Clear in his book Atomic Habits:

Make it obvious

2. Don't read after doing a high dopamine activity.

When you do something exciting your mind releases dopamine, the "feel-good" hormone and doing slow-paced activities like reading books after doing such things feels very boring. That's why you don't feel like reading after watching Youtube or Tiktok videos.

One way to tackle this is to make reading the first thing you do in the morning.

3. Change your thinking.

Don't identify yourself as someone who hates reading. This will resist you even more. Instead, think of yourself as a person who loves reading and you will actually start enjoying it.

4. Watch a quick summary video of the book on Youtube before reading it.

By doing so, you get an overview of what's inside the book and you can find if the book is appealing to you or not. If it's not then you save yourself a lot of time. Another advantage of this is that you will understand the book better because you already know what's the main idea. This will make your reading experience much more enjoyable.

Conclusion

If you are still reading this blog, congratulations you don't hate reading, you just need to set things in motion. I hope that this blog post helped/motivated you to read your next book.
